Thanks Norman,

So far, it seems I need to read about the Elinchrom's, the Paul C. Buff triggers, as well as Radio Poppers and Pocket Wizards.
Time to read the strobist archives and discussion groups...

i had the same problem while using another noname chineese made trigger. switched to Elinchrom `Skyport´ and never looked back.

those are really built small but extremely reliable upto around 130 mtrs outdoors and it does the job at a fraction of the cost of PW´s.
hope you wont encounter those problems again.
cheers,
Norman

I think that's gorgeous. I'm a sucker for that kind of winter landscape. I was so pleased when it snowed (stormed just a bit) last week. We have not had any significant snow here all month, (practically all winter) so last week's mini-storm, which is all it was here, came as welcome break. It made me get my camera out at least. Now it's all melting again, and the week's forecast promises spring.

OK, now I get. I'm working totally within LR so I won't be using the WHCC service.

I haven't tried your templates, but may tonight as a starting point. I want to make templates so I can print occasional card in LR. I may make an export preset with a PS action to make a drop shadow and bring it back into LR.

Thanks for your presets. I'm see how they work. I'm just surprised that more people haven't posted printing presets.

Thanks,

Hi Reid,

Apple's Pages is a word processing/page layout program. I imagine that Microsoft Word (or OpenOffice) would work.
Of course Adobe Illustrator would work too. The key is to make the file the correct size (5.125" x 7.25") and respect the cut lines that WHCC uses---
so that your top and bottom lines of text don't get cut off.
When prints are submitted to WHCC, you use their ROES software, and you select a folder of images and then you drag and drop your prepared files onto the card template.
I drag the front image to the front, the back image to the back (all clearly labelled in the software), and do nothing for the inside spread since I make blank cards. (There's no merging of images needed.)

Once you're a WHCC customer, you can download template files that will help you design the cards yourself if you like (although my Lightroom templates should take care of the front for you).
Send me an email if you like, and I can email the WHCC template files.

I hope this helps---let me know if I can clarify things more fully. Did my templates work on the Windows version of Lightroom?

Cheers,

I'm proficient in LR, but don't understand a couple of things:

I'm in the PC world, so I'm not familiar with Apple Pages. What does that do and what is the PC equivalent?

How do you "stack the front and back images," ? How do you merge the 2 images together to come up with a front and back of the card?

thanks,

Reid

Mixing kayaking and photography is awesome. Birds and shore animals are not really afraid of kayakers. You can get in really close before they move off.

And being low in the water is such a unique POV.

This is a nice shot, one that any kayaker can relate to. Get out there!

Hi Yvonne,
Well, image quality-wise, I'm quite pleased with Lightroom 3. In the past, if I come across an image I really like, I'd port it over to either Raw Developer (mac only) or DxO Optics Pro 5.x. Although DxO Optics still has a certain look to it's images, I find I can get LR3 beta to get pretty close to the same look by tweaking the tone curve and adjusting the sharpness. Of course, LR3 cannot perform the lens corrections that DxO can, but I'm pretty happy with LR3 so far. Although this image is at ISO 100 and doesn't have much noise to begin with, the first few ISO 3200 frames I processed with LR3 made me feel like I had a new camera. The noise reduction in LR3 Beta---although Chrominance only at this point---is much better in my subjective impression. I say subjective, because I really need to do a clear side by side LR2 to LR3 comparison. I suspect my gut impression will hold up however.

A few downsides to the beta so far: I find it's terribly slow at rendering changes on my secondary monitor at 1:1 when I'm in the Develop module on my MacBook Pro and I make changes in my develop settings. I'm talking 20-30 seconds here for the secondary monitor to update. Also, there seems to be a bug with regard to seeing images on the secondary monitor---if I am in compare mode (on the secondary monitor) and exit LR3, and then restart it, I cannot see an image on the secondary monitor if I switch to Loupe mode. All I see is the metadata. All the other modes work fine, but not this one. In any case, I'm sure this will be worked out in successive releases. I just hope the speed increases a tad...
